Question
I have been on a medical profile, for possible environmental exposure illnesses, and was told today that April is my 12 month mark of profile and that, if I'm not worldwide qualified by then, I will be medically discharged whether Line of Duty or not related.  VA has been trying to get a diagnosis and say that it may be environmental related but no diagnosis yet.  I am not sure what to expect, as far as the discharge goes, and what if anything I should be doing differently to try and get a diagnosis.  I don't want to be discharged but I understand that they may not have a choice.  My SX are very similar to the GWS SX's, and I have been told by VA that there is no test to determine cause.  I have been unable to work most of this year as a result and I am getting short-term disability through my civilian employers insurance.  Any advice or suggestions on what I can do?  I am Air National Guard weekend warrior with 11 years in, part active duty, and rest is Guard.  Thank you and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
technically, they are correct.  However, you still will go thru med board, if discharged, you may be eligible for nearly 100% disability, and being dicharged for medical reason helps that cause.  If you cannot deploy, then the best thing for you and the Air Force is to move on and let you focus on getting better theu the VA system.

Focus on getting better and living a better life.  The military will always be part of you.

Thank you for serving and a pray for a full recovery on your end.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
