Question
1. If a Sgt. with the 3/1 out of Pendleton was injured in Iraq, then returned to the U.S. for recovery period of, say, one year, what would be his status (medically inactive?) during that year since he couldn't actively serve with his unit?  And while he was awaiting his fitness reports, what would be his assignment at base?  When he's  declared fit for combat, would he get orders to still be with the same unit or be re-assigned within the 3/1 or even re-assigned to another division, etc. in or out of Pendleton?
2. May an older Sgt. who is divorced or single still live in barracks at Pendleton? Or if he chooses to live off base, is he still responsible for clean-up, etc. of a room in barracks as you've indicated in previous answers?
3. If a Marine is in a war zone and receives family emergency leave, does he return to the U.S. on his own dime or does USMC pay?  What transport could he use from Iraq?  Once at his home near Pendleton, would he check in with someone at camp each day?

You have a really fascinating website.  I've been up for hours reading.  Thanks for the enjoyment.

Answer
Lynda:

1:  Likely he would be assigned to the 'wounded warrior' battalion and remain on active duty.  You are always on active duty unless/until discharged, no matter what your medical status may be.  He would likely, after being declared fit, be returned to his unit of origin.

2:  Depends on the barracks situation.  However, if he has a barracks room, he is still responsible for it.  Age isn't a factor, BTW, it goes to dependant status and room availability.  It's a local command policy.

3:  The military pays for a certain part of the leave, but usually the member is responsible for most of it.  Once on leave you are typically not required to 'check in' with anyone.

Glad you enjoy the site!

Jason

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
