Question
Mr. Powers,

I am active duty in the navy. I have been in for 10 years and 10 months. I have recently been made aware that if I fail this term of the BCA that I may be admin separated. A question I have is since it falls under honorable conditions is that the same as an Honorable Discharge? Also, is a true fact with it being involuntary that they would have to pay me for putting me out? I do not want to get out this way as I am trying on a constant basis to lose the weight.

Thank you

Answer
Hi Montego,

The majority of separations for weight or fitness are honorable discharges. The commander can separate using General (Under Honorable Conditions) discharge, if he/she feels it is more appropriate (such as if there are negative factors in your military record, such as poor duty performance, missing fitness appointments, etc.)

For weight or fitness discharges, you would be entitled to 1/2 involuntary separation pay. See the paychart for involuntary separation pay at: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/fy2009paycharts/a/isep.-uVl.htm
