QuestionAbout 4 years ago. on Nov. 2005 I was given an ELS from the USAF in BMT. It was a medical reason; I was diagnosed by the doctors at reed hospital with "excercise induced uritcaria".
Basically for some reason I broke out in hives from head to toe after the days we would run, and only on the days we would run.
I was issued with 3 epi-pens, one for myself, my training buddy, and training instructor. Anyways it kept occuring even after i was given medication (Over the counter benadryl).
This condition nevered occured my entire life prior to going in to USAF BMT. Needless to say after being in med-hold for a few months I was told by a female captain, (the allergist specialist i was seeing) that I could be in medhold for several more months maybe even a year because they could not pin-point what was causing my condition.
I was given the chance to opt-out and i think it is because i had a "split-option" training contract and was schedule to return to school (i cant confirm if thats the reason why.
I choose to leave being told i can return with a waiver, 4 years later, im about to graduate college and want to return to the Air Force, but because of my Re-Code (4C), ive been prohibitted from joining any of the branches, atleast all the enlisted recruiters dont seem to wanna help. But for some reason the ROTC commanders down here (So Cal) are willing to help me with "upgrading" my Re-Code as long as I join their program.
After being home for 4 years i've continue to run regularly on my own, and haven never had a re-occurance of what happened to me more than once, and that was only 2 days after coming home.
I see my civilian doctor, volunteer for LAPD reserve and both doctors have giving me stress test and cannot duplicate the same results. I strongly believe my condition can be treated and I can provide documentation if need too, but their are certain, expensive, special test i need to pay for, before I do that I wanted to know who can help me to provide my Medical Records from my short time in Air Force and do I have a chance of being able to come back in as enlisted service men?
Thank You for your time
AnswerGetting an RE code upgraded is very hard. Only discharge types (general, other than honorable etc) are upgraded, while the re code stays the same unless they deem it not fitting of the regulation. A medical discharge of your type does fit a RE4 type code. Military entrance physicals would deny you based upon your past with these issues. You are too much of arisk to let back in. The chances of you getting medical records is slim to none. You would have to contact the bese you were treated and go from there.
Your key words that disqualify you is "condition can be treated". If it needs to be treated, it is an issue. Thats why it will be hard to change.
You can try, but in my experience, you will not make the grade for re entry.
