Question
my son is at basic military training with the air national guard. last night he was rushed to the emergency room where they found he has a kidney stone. they said he could either be honorably discharged or maybe get a waiver. can he really be discharged because of a kidney stone?

It's possible, but probably not likely, unless there are complications.
If a person experiences a medical problem during basic training that will remove them from the training program for an extensive period of time, the services will often discharge them, and encourage them to re-apply at a later period of time, once the condition has been resolved.
