Question
Hi my name is Candacee and my husband is trying to re-enlist into the marine corps. We are 6 mos away from our EAS date. The process should be easy but it is not. He was currently put up before the CRB and demoted to a LCPL for not being ablt to handle the responsibilities of a NCO. He was one minute late and that is what happened. He is now doing his re-enlistment package but the gunny and cvo both said no. I would like to know if this is going to greatly affect the outcome and if so what can he do to fight the decision? We really need to be able to re-enlist due to our growing family. He has recently switched units where they were giving him so much trouble and is doing alot better. He will be eligible to pick up again before he gets out. Please Help me!!

Answer
Hi Candacee,

I'm afraid it's pretty much up to his current commanding officer as to whether or not he will be allowed to re-enlist.

COs put great stock in the recommendations of their senior leadership. I'm afraid with a non-recommendation from the gunny and cvo, it doesn't look good. There is no "right" to serve or re-enlist in the US Military, so there isn't any "appeal" process for not being selected for re-enlistment, although he should be allowed to give the commander "his side of the story." After that, it's up to the commander.
