Question
I an 27 years old, passed all the steps for enlistment. I was sworn in with the guys leaving the next day, but I didn't have a date to go.  Now the coast guard says I can't get a date for boot camp because they want me to pay my bills first.  I will be 28 in Nov. 2009.  My question is since I was sworn in , am I in the coast guard, or are you not in the coast guard until boot camp.

Answer
Sam,
O.K., i'll be straight and to the point, it surprises me that you were sworn in already. The Coast Guard only does the Swear in portion the day before you actually leave for Boot Camp. Thats why this surprises me a little. Also did you have a guaranteed A-school? If not that could pose another problem because the Max age to join is 27 unless you have a guaranteed school...You need to contact your recruiter ASAP. But all in all even though you were sworn in you are still not a member just quite yet. How much do you have in bills to pay? What is your debt to income ratio do you know?
Thanks,
Eric
