Question
Hello, I am looking to enlist into the coast guard but  I have some worries about my chances of getting accepted. I am 21 now but when I was 19 I received a minor in possession ticket for alcohol. I have completed all of my requirements with the court system. Will this effect my chances of getting accepted?

Answer
Hello Dennis,
O.k. we all make mistakes at some point in our life, and the object is to own up to it. You did and you completed all of your requirements for it. The military understands that. As for joining my advice for you is to contact a Coast Guard recruiter right away. As long as you are honest you shouldn't have a problem, make sure that you tell the recruiter everything in regards to it though. As long as you don't have anything else on your record you should not have a problem joining. If you have any other questions please let me know.
Thanks,
Eric
