Careers: Military--Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard/US Army Contract Question

Question
I realize this is not a great question to ask, but I'd like to get an opinion on this. I am going to sign a contract to enlist in the US Army next week. My ship date is for late March. Can you tell me or point me in the direction of the rules/regulations which can give me the grounds for getting out of this contract if something should happen to me? If I am injured or if I have a death in my family or something that happens during the next 4 months. It is a long time and I'd like to know if I have any options should something happen. I thank you for your time.

Answer
Hi Tim,

You're enlisted in the Deplayed Enlistment Program (DEP). Anyone can request a discharge from the DEP for any reason. For details, see my article at: http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/joiningup/a/dep.htm
