QuestionQUESTION: Hello I plan to apply for the CSPI program in 2011(can't meet the 2010 deadline) I know I should be asking a recruiter about this but I’m trying to learn as much as possible before talking to one. I'm trying to find someway too show some leadership on my application. Most people say being a school class president or captain on a team sport is good. However, the problem is I went to a community college that doesn't have a school team and since I graduated already I can't apply for most committees. Is there anything else that I can do to show leadership?
ANSWER: Sean,
I'm not going to lie I'm a little confused by this question, what exactly is CSPI? Is it the Center for Science in Public Interest? I googled it and that is all I got in return. I'm not familiar with that program at all. Also, what branch are you trying to join, and what are you planning on doing i.e. officer or enlisted?
Also sorry it took me a while to get back to you, its been a crazy holiday week. If you could answer those questions, I should be able to give you a little more insight into what you are asking of me.
Thanks,
Eric

AnswerHello Sean,
Sorry about that, I was a little confused for a moment there. Hmm ok leadership qualities, have you volunteered for anything i.e. habitat for humanity or working in a soup kitchen anything like that? What have you possibly done in your community that may have helped you along? Volunteering for projects is always a good thing that people look at on your applications. It doesn't mean that you have to be a school president or any of those things yes they do help, but helping others is one of the Coast Guards biggest values. We are here for the people when they need us. So like I said if you can show that you have helped people you should have no problems.
If you have any other questions please let me know.
Thanks,
Eric
