Question
Dear Colonel,
My question to you is how do you go about petioning the Army to have your RE Code Changed.  I am a Vet that recently got discharged in July of 2008 with an Honorable but with an RE3 code.  They said that I had a Personality Disorder.  Which I wen to a Mental Health Doctor and they said that I did not show any traits of ever having a Personality Disorder.  I have done almost 6 years in the military and I loved every minute of it.  I had a small problem in Iraq with my unit and losing some friends.  I know that I still have what it takes to serve my country and I would love some advice on what to do.  Thank you very much,

Thanks,
Lance

Answer
Dear Lance --

You may petition the Army Board for Correction of Military Records to adjust your discharge characterization. You can research the path you must follow to make your petition at this web site:  http://arba.army.pentagon.mil/abcmr-overview.cfm

Since you received an honorable discharge, you may be eligible for a waiver for your RE code to re-enlist.  If your re-entry code is waiverable, that is a faster route to re-enlistment than petitioning the ABCMR.

Please write back, if you have additional questions.  Thank you for your service.
