Question
Back in the 70's I tried to reenlist in the Navy at Dallas, Tx. After being examed and tested I was sent to the hearing department again to have a retest. When I came out the guy said my hearing was too bad for enlistment. I just left angry and went back home. Now I have a problem, my wife is retiring this next year from the Navy. They have been providing hearing aids thru her medical. I want to apply to Va but don't have a clue as to how I can find the information from Dallas. I have asked for my medical records once before but was told that it was still active. I can only figure they are seeing my medical record now and not my past one. I had put in my service number ( when we use them instead of SS) but came back saying the same thing. Where do I find the reenlistment denial? Whom do you have to contact? I have applied to DAV for assistance but they say I need to find most of this information and I haven't a clue. Any and all help is appreciated. garywigley

Answer
Gary:

This website will help you get your records:

http://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/location/location-navy...

Once you have them you can go from there.  FYI you don't need your records to apply for benefits through the VA, as it normally takes months for them to even look at your initial claim.  Get with your local VA rep who'll help you out.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
