Expert: Rod Powers - 11/2/2009
Question If you are activated and you come up for promotion are you competing against reservist or active duty?
Answer Hi Lynette,
You are under the Reserve promotion program. That's because, unlike active duty, Reserve promotion slots are based on slots available within the specific unit.
The active duty services have the option of PCSing a member who gets promoted if there aren't any slots for that promotion within the unit. The Reserves don't have that option, which is why you remain under the Reserve system, even if you are currently activated.
