Careers: Military--Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard - age waiver

Expert: Rod Powers - 11/8/2009

Question
I am an honorary reserve retired USAF Major. I want to participate in the Voluntary Rated Retired Recall Program, but the age limit is 60 to enter and 62 to remain on active duty, and I am approaching 65. Are age waivers granted? Thanks!

Answer
Hi George,

In your case, I'm afraid the answer is "no," unless you are a doctor or a nurse. The maximum age to remain on active duty is set by federal law, and therefore cannot be waived.

Hope this helps!
