Question
Hi, Eric.  My son is currently stationed on a uscg cutter in district 17, and called us last night, mentioning he has "survival school" next week.  Do you know generally what this is?  Also, in general, what is life on a buoy tender like?

Answer
Hello Terri,
I'm positive that you are a proud parent of a Coastie and you should be :) As for Survival School, I have never heard of it before. Then again he is in District 17 which they do a lot of cold weather operations since it is Alaskan territory. As for life on a Buoy Tender I have several friends that were stationed on Buoy Tenders needless to say after there tour was up they looked like professional body builders ;). I do know that they are normally very very busy and I also know that they are very hard workers as well. A few of my friends said they wished that they were still on the Buoy Tenders because they loved the work.
I hope that I was able to answer some of your questions, if you have any more questions please let me know.
Thanks,
Eric
