Question
i was discharged from the Navy this past April. my reentry code was re-8 and my separation code was JFC. I am trying to enlist on the Army but my recruiter doesn't know what the re-8 means. i was told by someone i had called that an re-8 means i can have it waived but i want to be sure so i can enlist. please help?

Answer
Amanda,
Makes you wonder how smart that recruiter is doesn't it?  But that's why we experts are here, to help you.

You evidently weren't in the Navy for very long.  RE-8 is used by the Navy when they discharge somebody still in Boot Camp.  RE-8 means exactly, "Temporary medical conditions or unsatisfactory initial performance and conduct (available to recruits assigned to Recruit Training Command for initial training only)."

Your Separation Code of JFC means exactly, "Enlisted/reenlisted/extended/inducted in error. Erroneous Enlistment or Induction."

Usually an RE-8 can be waived because after a sufficient time they figure you've "grown up" and are ready to accept military life.  Since you just got out 6 months ago they may want you to wait a bit longer.  Since the Army recruiter you talked to doesn't seem to know, you may want to go to the website:  http://www.goarmy.com/ChatIndex.do?redirect=true  and chat live with a recruiter at Recruiting Command headquarters at Ft. Knox, KY.

Thanks for wanting to serve again.
