Question
Happy Holidays!

Recently, I finished boot camp. I am 40 years old and received a waiver for High Blood Pressure to enter the Army.

Boot camp was a struggle. Often, I experienced chest pains and my blood pressure hovered around 160/100. Once, it was as high as 202/116. Other than the numbers and chest pain, I'm in good shape.

Next week, I report to my first duty station. Although I've been placed on medication by Army doctors, is there a chance that I will be discharged?

Side note: My MOS is Infantry

Thank you.

Happy New Year!

Answer
Not to be critical, but why would a 40 yr old with medical issue of BP go Infantry?  You won't be discharged specifially for High BP unless it starts messing with you more and makes you undeployable.  That is the main issue.  Infnatry demands alot as you have found out, but as long as you stay on your meds, stay in shape, eat healthy, you should be fine and keep your BP under control.  Keep it under control and you will be fine.  be sure to carry extra with you when you deploy!!

Good luck?

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
