Question
Colonel Bedell,
My name is Nate Coffee. I am a college student with the ultimate goal of pursuing a career in the Air Force as a Pararescueman. I have a question regarding an injury that I've sustained to my index finger. My tendon was severed about 6 years ago. I have had it surgically repaired, however I still am not able to fully flex it. Additionally, due to the surgery my finger is somewhat deformed and it does not fully extend. I am an avid hunter and am still use this index finger to fire a rifle. The injury truly does not affect me in any manner, but I realize that military qualification guidelines are extremely strict. To your knowledge, would this type of injury disqualify me from military service? Thank you very much for your time.

Answer
Dear Nate --

You would have to petition for a waiver in order to enlist in the service with your index finger injury.  I cannot predict whether or not the military medical doctors will find you fit for service.  Since you sound like an otherwise high quality candidate, you should definitely try.

Good luck to you.
