Question
Dear Jason,
My son is a 81mm motorman in the USMC.He recently fell out of his rack and sustained and injury to his ear, he couldn't hear out of it.. He went to the docs on base and they said it was just wax, cleaned it out sent him on his way. That was 5 weeks ago. He is now home for the holidays and still can't hear out of his left ear. I took him yesterday to an ENT doc and they did a CT scan and an audiogram. He has an 80% hearing loss. He may have damged the interior cochlear . This may be permanent. Will he be able to stay in the USMC or possibly change his MOS? What steps do we take now?
Thank you for your time,
Concerned Mom- Judy

Answer
Judy:

Have him take the current medical results back to his command and to medical.  They'll be able to go from there.  The key is 'permanent'.  They'll have to make that decision at their level at this point.  He may or may not keep his MOS, but until the docs review it and decide, he's OK.   He should be able to stay in either way.

Jason

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.

Experience
