Question

I am currently in the Marine Corps DEP.When I was working with my recruiter I told him about some minor foot surgery I had and he told me to not mention it when I went to MEPs and I did just that. However, I am starting to hear more and more about fraudulent enlistment which is making kind of nervous. Should I stay quiet and not mention my foot surgery or should I tell MEPs before I ship out to Parris Island? I plan on making this my career and just want to ensure that my foot surgery medical record wont come back to hscrew me over later on in my career. Also, I was wondering if I drop out of the DEP would I be able to start the whole enlistment process over again? Thank you for your time.

Answer
Chris:

Never a good idea to lie to MEPS, I don't care WHAT the recruiter tells you.  Fraudulent enlistment SHOULD make you nervous, cause once they get you for that, you won't be reenlisted, period.  You are done.

If you drop from DEP for medical, or whatever, yes, you can start over, however, they usually make you wait a year or so.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
