Question
hi, my name is melissa and i am writing for my husband, jeff

he is:

Reg army, e-5, served 2 tours, 11b, been in 4 yrs

our situation is a little interesting and was wondering if any of you can give me some info.

jeff is over in iraq again currently. a while ago he told his sgt he felt like killing himself and was sent to mental health and put on suicide watch for a few days. psych cleared him and he was put back to duty. everything was completely normal after that. he is ETSing in april. he is a model soldier, except for that! he gets 300 on pt's, (super great shape), he gets great counselings... but his CO says that jeff has a hard time balancing infantry and his family. soooo what i am wondering can that CO put something negative on his DD 214... when they have NO paperwork to back it up. see this is simply just the CO's opinion. his CO dislikes him for some reason. We thinks its cuz jeff whips his AZZ in pt! HA HA... kidding. ok ok, so really, on his dd 214 can his co screw him? this is going to be a regular ets . i mean jeff is on stop loss but it going be a time up, time served kinda thing. they cleared him at mental health. didnt give him any article 15's, didnt take away his weapon, nothing. the people i have talked to tell me that they cant put anything negative on his 214 unless something actually happened and they have paperwork to back it up, is that true? and how can i find out waht they are putting on it before he ets's? also, can he fight it, if they try to give him something other than a 1. How would he go about fighting it? see my husband wants to go AGR... and thats not gonna work with a bad re code?
thanks so much!

Answer
Unless he gets a Bar to reenelist, he will be fine.  Stuff has to be in writing to have a bad code on DD214 and re codes follow a specific regualtion on what is allowed and why.  I am sure he will get an RE1 Honorable unless he gets into trouble while in Iraq.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
