Question
I have an employee who says was discharged from basic training because of asthma. Also says he became a Ranger. How long do you have to wait to re-enlist after being discharged with asthma? He's only 22. Is this possible? OR is he just full of ______?
Thanks for your time.

Answer
Well your employee cannot become a ranger out of basic training. He would have completed that as a follow on school and, with asthma, he would have been immediately disqualified from attending. As far as waiting to re-enlist, there is no set time with asthma because it is a performance limiting condition. He may not ever be able to re-enlist as the military isn't the place for someone who may have a medical emergency due to the strenuous and stressful conditions we train and fight in.

Expertise

I am currently an active duty Army Captain in the Military Police Field. I have been enlisted (Military Intelligence) and attended The United States Military Academy at West Point. I can answer questions related to the Army, posting, jobs, lifestyle, workings... pretty much anything you can throw at me with the exception of very specific recruting or medical questions. I have no expertise in what it takes to get in the military other than the fact that I, myself, joined at one point in time.

Experience

I have experience in both deployed and garrision environments as a Military Police Officer.

Education/Credentials
Bachelor of Science in Arabic and French from United States Military Academy at West Point.
