Question
I have been in the Navy for over a year now and my EAOS is Jan 2012 and I want to go to bud/s.  I am currently a MA and have been at my command for about year.  I plan on training for bud/s for a year before trying to go.  That puts me with only 2 years left on my contract.  I know that I'll have to obliserve for training and that I have to obliserve for 51 months on the completion of training.  My questions is that my career counselor told me that I would have to obliserve the 51 months before I go to bud/s and if I drop-out for some reason I will have give the Navy the 51 months.  Is this true or is my counselor lying to me or he doesn't know and he assumes that's the rule?  He also mentioned that when I obliserve and if my bud/s package is denied and I can go I still have to obliserve?  Thank you.

Answer
hello Brandon:
If nothing has changed in the last 25 years, obliserve only applies if you are accepted into BUD/S. If you DOR, you may still have to serve the 51. Hope this helps
