Question
Good Evening Jason,

I enlisted in the USMCR in April of 2007, Completed Bootcamp at MCRDSD and 0311 Training at Camp Pendelton.  I checked into my unit in Sept 2007.  After a few months worth of drills, I had a few problems that ultimately made me question which path I took.  I was UA for about 13 drills and was discharged for Failure to Participate.

I'm having second thoughts about making this choice, and would like to know 1) My chances of returning to my unit to possibly avoid the OTH discharge on my DD214 a few years from now.   Also 2) Even though I'm sure I received an RE-4 code.  I know that a few of them a waiverable if I chose to go into active duty.  What are my chances?

I have spoken to a recruiter about this situation and he said he would call me back.  It has been about a month now.

Answer
Craig:

Call the recruiter again.  Better yet, go see him/her in person.

Call your unit 1stSgt and see what they say, they might take you back..or they might not.  If you've been totally discharged, and have an RE-4 code, you'll be out of luck and have to obtain a waiver to re-enlist, which will be difficult to obtain but not impossible.

The recruiter is likely your best option here unless the unit agrees to take you back.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
