Question
I'm hoping maybe you can help point me/us in the right direction for help with resume writing, preferably something online. My boyfriend is about to retire, but hasn't a clue what to do about his resume. He hasn't taken the classes yet as he is deployed, but he wants to try to do what he can from where he is, so online options work best. He just wants to be prepared before he gets home so he has more time to job hunt before his retirement. Any suggestions or links would be fantastic.

Thanks!

Katie:

Quite frankly, I'm not sure where to go with this myself.  I would try and google 'great resume' or 'award winning resume' or 'job getting resume' and see what sort of sites that brings up.  If he has a library nearby where he's at, there are lots of books available on writing a good resume, including some for military folks.  You might also try Amazon and search for 'resume writing', to see what books they have available.

Google will bring you a wide range of options so I think that is your best bet.  The type of resume he writes will sort of depend on what type of job he is looking for when he gets out. Federal resumes are a totally different kind of animal than a regular resume, so if he is looking in that direction more is better.  A regular resume is just the opposite...if it's getting into 2 pages or more, that's not good.

Hopefully, my suggestions have helped some.

Best regards,

Jason

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
