Question
I have a question that has to do with my ex. fiance living off base. you see we have a little girl born five months ago and as you should know military totally changes most people, well it did him, and were not doing the greatest. We really want to try and make things work for our little girl. i was told the only way me and him could live together is if we get married. As much as i hope someday we can get married i don't think at the moment it is the best decision for us, we need to see if living together can work. Anyway i was wondering two things. one, is it true that for him to live off base we need to be married? and two, for us to live on base together do we also need to be married? i guess this would be a third question too, if those are true is there any possible way around that so we can try our best to make it work between us? sorry for this being so long, thanks for you time!        sincerely, Tia

Answer
Tia:

There is no regulation that prohibits you both from living together off base.  If you have a child, then he should be drawing Basic allowance for Housing, for the child.  You are correct, you can't live on base unless you are married, but the child in common changes that fact as well, he may be eligible for base housing based on that.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
