Question
Hi, I am an Electrical Engineer and I would honestly like to serve this country, who have gave me and my family a great life full of opportunities. I went to talk to a recruiter and he told me that I have to fix my credit before starting the application process or I won't be accepted.
My question is: what does my credit has to do in entering in the air force?
It has to do with the fact that I am not a US citizen yet?( I will be in May 2010)
What could I do, I really want to join the military.
Thanks

Answer
Your credit is not looked at as a whole, its looked at because you are married and have a family. Once you are allowed to enlist, the Air Force does not want you to come in with huge debts. Financial Irresponsibility is frowned on in the air force and if you are already in this situation, we are setting you up for failure.

The other thing they will look at is how many kids you have, We are only going to pay you so much your first few years, usually those that have more than 3 children will have to undergo a dependency waiver as well.

So until you are eligible to enlist, work on getting your credit up to par.

I have spent the past 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, 3 years was assigned as an Enlisted Accessions Recruiter. I have been deployed various times to several locations. If it is a career in the military you are looking for or thinking about I most likely have the answer. I still have contacts with in the recruiting field and if I don't know the answer then I have folks who do where I can find the answer. I am very blunt and straight forward and will make no attempts to BS you. I will give you the best information that I possible can can. If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
