Question
Dear Mr. Lorenz,
I was wondering if you knew anything about Army OCS?  I have heard and read so many different things, I no longer have any idea which story is the straight one.

My situation:
Enlisted Air Force, currently assigned to DLI.
Realized very quickly I should have gone through OCS. Partly my fault because I was in such as rush to get into the military that I didn't take the time to do all the research I should have.  Needless to say, didn't get much help from my recruiter, and here I am enlisted in the Air Force at DLI.

What I ultimately want is to be a Green Beret.  I was looking into Army Special Forces before I enlisted, but not hard enough.

So, my question is what are my options?  I have been told I can apply to Army OCS no problem!  I have also been told I am not eligible!  Been told have to wait another year.  Been told have to finish my enlistment.  Been told I can and I can't in the same day!!

Any insight would be great!!

My info: A1C, 26 years old, bachelor's degree, top secret security clearance, Chinese Mandarin, 11+ years work experience in the civilian realm, including management.

Thanks for your time.  God Bless.

Jesse

Answer
Jesse,

There are 2 options that I can think of...

The Blue to Green program and goint to Airforce OTS and see if you can get into AF combat Control or TAC/P as an officer. Research the Air Force combat careers. Once your an officer, if you still choose to be a member of the GB, you can look at going to the army thru the blue to green program. You can find information about the B2G pgrm on the net

I have spent the past 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, 3 years was assigned as an Enlisted Accessions Recruiter. I have been deployed various times to several locations. If it is a career in the military you are looking for or thinking about I most likely have the answer. I still have contacts with in the recruiting field and if I don't know the answer then I have folks who do where I can find the answer. I am very blunt and straight forward and will make no attempts to BS you. I will give you the best information that I possible can can. If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
