Question
Is asthma a disqualifying condition when joining the CG? What are some jobs that doesnt require you to go overseas? How long will I stay overseas if I have to go? How will I know where im going to be stationed? Can I pick where I want to be stationed? What are some benefits of joining? Where is boot camp and how long is it? Do the CG pay for all schooling? Im in a relationship but not married yet, would it be hard for us to see each other because he's in the Navy? Would it be possible for me to stay where he is?

Answer
Kanesha,

Asthma is a disqualifying factor in all services. Most all jobs in the military are deployable. Those who develop asthma in the military are either separated or not allowed to reenlist. Its not that the military is discriminating against those who have this condition, its more of a protection factor for you. If you are deployed and have an attack, This puts the unit at risk, because you now have become a victim and it distracts from the mission.

My advise is purely this... If you want to serve your country, you can do so in other avenues such as the Department of Homeland Security, FBI, DEA, etc. They may not be the vehicle of service that you had planned, but they all serve the country in some capacity. You can also serve by working for the military as a civilian.

Good Luck

I have spent the past 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, 3 years was assigned as an Enlisted Accessions Recruiter. I have been deployed various times to several locations. If it is a career in the military you are looking for or thinking about I most likely have the answer. I still have contacts with in the recruiting field and if I don't know the answer then I have folks who do where I can find the answer. I am very blunt and straight forward and will make no attempts to BS you. I will give you the best information that I possible can can. If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
