Careers: Military--Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard/Eligibility To Enter The Air National Guard

Question
Sir;
    I was active duty USAF for 17 years and took the SSB in '92....wrong move.  Anyways, I am moving back home to Puerto Rico and wish to join the Air National Guard there.  (In June '09)  My DD214 separation code reads MCB and the reentry code reads 3S.   Question...  Will I be eligible?
I just would like to know before I embark on this.   Also,
I've had a different career in the medical field...went to a formal school after separating and have worked in the medical field for 14 years (in the operating room)  (operating room technician).  In the Air Force my AFSC was 42375 (AGE).  I do not desire to return to that AFSC!  Question...Do I have a chance in the Air National Guard to do what I am doing now or a similar job in the medic field?
Or will I have to retrain in what I have already gone to school for and have experience in?
Sir, thank you for taking the time to inform me...

Carlos

Answer
the nice thing about the Air Force, is its partner components are completely separate entities. The Air National Guard is run by the state or territory unless in times of war. Well we all know who runs them at the present time, but the Governor still has control.

a 3s reentry code means that you separated with a separation benefit. Now since this was something that was given to you from the Active sector, not sure if the ANG will make you pay that back...its a possibility, but doubtful.

As for your AFSC... That will be determined by the recruiter... They will try to place you into what they have available. If the Medical Career field isnt available, you might have to look at some thing else or wait till something opens up. More than likely though something will be available.

I have spent the past 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, 3 years was assigned as an Enlisted Accessions Recruiter. I have been deployed various times to several locations. If it is a career in the military you are looking for or thinking about I most likely have the answer. I still have contacts with in the recruiting field and if I don't know the answer then I have folks who do where I can find the answer. I am very blunt and straight forward and will make no attempts to BS you. I will give you the best information that I possible can can. If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
