Question
Good evening Howard,

I recently was discharged from the USMCR in Oct 08.  I received an OTH discharge and now that i'm finished with college, I'm thinking about re-enlisting.  I still have 2 years left on my original contract, so I didn't receive a DD214.

My question:  Is it possible to still have a waiverable RE3 code for active duty only?

Any advice would be helpful

Regards,

Craig.

Answer
I suppose its possible, but that decision will be left up to the service you plan on reenlisting into. RE codes of three most are waiverable, but there will be a price paid for haveing to do the waiver so be prepared to pay the piper. Most waivers dont get many choices, this is because that now that you were discharged from the reserves with an OTH discharge, now the service is going to have to do an acception to policy by wavering your reentry in to the service based on your current qualifications. You should have received some kind of discharge paperwork to show that you are transferred to the IRR program, I believe that will suffice the DD 214 that is needed.

If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do.
