Question
I am a SGT with 4 yrs 9 months in the Marine Corps. My MOS (6048) has closed out for reenlistment, so I am forced to LATMOV. I have chosen Air Traffic CTRL (7257). I was attracted to this MOS because of the hefty bonus (81000$) and because it is a trade I can take with me after my 20. My question for you is concerning the EXTREME difficulty I am having dealing with reenlisting. I have been in the process of it for 5 months now. I still have not recieved my contract back from HQ of Marine Corps. And am deploying to WTI tomorrow for 6 weeks. My EAS is June 27. I am getting extremely anxious about what is going on, I have a family. I have routed my concerns through the chain of command and all I have heard all the way up through my SGTMAJ is that we have no foot over HQ and they will take care of it, but nothing has been done.

Do you know any other channel I can go through without crushing myself by jumping the chain of command. Or someway to contact HQ directly? I know this is probably a long shot but I just thought I would try a last ditch effort before I just say the heck with it and get out....

Thanks for any guidance you have and semper fi.

Gary:

HQMC typically takes their sweet time with these things, esp. with reenlisting/lat moving into that particular MOS.  While I understand your sweating on this (I would be to) jumping the chain at this point likely won't do you much good.  However, that doesn't prevent you from contacting the MOS Monitor for ATC, and let him/her know that you have a pending packet, and could they check on it?  If the monitor knows they are about to pick someone up, they might be able to get things moving faster, or at least give you an answer.  If they are no help, contacting the Career Planning supervisor at the base level (or even HQMC) is certainly an option and wouldn't be considered jumping the chain.  Give those a try and let me know what happens.

Your last recourse is to request mast.  That is certainly an option and perfectly within your rights to do.  Take it as far as you need to until someone gets you an answer.

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
