Question
Hi, Mr. Lorenz.
I recently 'chatted' online with an AF recruiter.  I inquired about the possibility of applying for OTS.  I will turn 33 this May.  I have a Bachelor's.  I am married with two children. However, almost 14 year ago I drove intoxicated.  This was a life changing mistake.  I am wondering if the Air Force would allow me a waiver.  Yes, this was a terrible thing, but it truly does not define who I am, nor is it indicative of my true morals, values, or character.  Obviously, since then I have gone on to graduate and become a teacher.  I have a young family to care for though and my current position offers no benefits.  The recruiter online said 'no chance, this disqualifies you'.  However, I have read on some of these other posts that they do allow waivers from time to time, situation depending.  Any truth to this?  Any input you may have would be great and much appreciated. Thanks for your time!

Answer
Its not the DUI that's stopping you , its your age. You can however join the Reserves, they have different rules.. Contact the reserve recruiter and see what they say, dont quite me, but I believe that they are adjusting age because of your school time....

As for the DUI,,its waiverable.

If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
