Question
My boyfriend is planning on joining the army and i wanted to know doing the basic training can he get visitors, because he has custody of his two children but i care for them. And also if he was planning on live on the base would we have to be married if i was to live with him?

Answer
Tiffany:
Your boyfriend can't get visitors during basic training except during special weekends.  The same will apply to his follow on Advanced training and both may be at different bases, depending on his job selection and other criteria.  Also, he would be allowed to live in an apartment-type building on his base (probably required to) as long as he has custody of the kids.  You could probably get away with not being married and living together, but it would be annoying since he would have to sign you in and out of the base as you wouldn't possess a military ID unless you were married. Hope this helps.

Expertise

I am currently an active duty Army Captain in the Military Police Field. I have been enlisted (Military Intelligence) and attended The United States Military Academy at West Point. I can answer questions related to the Army, posting, jobs, lifestyle, workings... pretty much anything you can throw at me with the exception of very specific recruting or medical questions. I have no expertise in what it takes to get in the military other than the fact that I, myself, joined at one point in time.

Experience

I have experience in both deployed and garrision environments as a Military Police Officer.

Education/Credentials
Bachelor of Science in Arabic and French from United States Military Academy at West Point.
