Question
Hello, I'm leaving for boot camp for the Marines this June, and my fiance is in the Navy. He is currently still attending ATT schooling. I have a very little understanding of what opertunities we might have on being stationed together. I've heard that we have more chances on being stationed together if we get married before I get stationed at my first base. Is this true? And what's the best advice you can provide for this situation?

Answer
Maria:

Likely you won't like the answer I'm about to give...it's "Slim".  Your chances for marital success statistically are not very good based on the fact that both of you are going to be in separate services, and likely doing different jobs.  While not totally impossible that you will be stationed together, the military typically doesn't go out of it's way to station those serving in different branches that chance.

Personally, no matter how much it might pain you to do so, I'd wait until you graduate recruit training and school, and go from there.  While you may actually stand a better chance of getting stationed together if you get married prior to enlistment, it's going to be a long, hard road to actually stay together and stay married.

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
