Question
Hi. I was recently PDQ'ed due to basically "having bad teeth". I passed through everything else, but that was the thing that disqualified me. I was recommended for a waiver by the doctor & am now awaiting for my waiver to get signed or what not. (I am trying to enlist in the Navy by the way) I just have a few questions for you.

Why would I be disqualified over something that would not effect my performance?

How long does it normally take for a waiver to get approved & does it vary by branches in any chance?

Is there anything I can/should do to assist in this process?

Thank You for your time.

Teeth can affect your performance when they start to go bad by pain, getting infected and other stuff.

Waivers are harder to come by nowadays due the fact that recruiting is doing well due to the economy.  Some branches are not even giving waivers for medical right now.

The only thing you can do is go take care of your issue by a dentist.  I am not sure how bad they are, but if you can afford it, do it.  My sister waited too long and it cost her $7k.

good luck

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
