Question
Dear Sir,
I am currently enrolled into the Mortuary Affairs Course through AKO/NKO, and I have 17 years active duty navy as well as my current status as an Federal Civilian employee and have been for 5 years.  Although I do not have any formal experience as an Mortuary Affairs Specialist other than with my Church organization as a license Minister, I'm very interested in the current job announcement at the Dover, Air Force base.  Please advise me on my opportunities to process for this open position.

Answer
Anthony,
I'd say your chances are good if you meet the requirements listed in the job description.  Dover is the "Port Mortuary" for processing the remains of deceased Service members from ALL of the U.S. Services.  They have been in a hiring frenzy lately because they are trying to keep up with the remains from Iraq and Afghanistan.  As you're probably already aware, you'll get a bit of a preference because you're a veteran.  Your local Civilian Personnel Office can help you through the application process if you need it.
Good luck, and thanks for continuing to serve!
Colonel H
