Question
I was discharged from the Army after I tried to commit suicide. I have since been reevaluated, and my papers have my discharge listed as "Honorable", but my RE code is 3. I understand this is going to be complicated, and I have started taking the steps toward reenlisting. I can't find out which form I need to do this. All I've been able to find are forms for adjusting your discharge status. Any suggestions that might help my case would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Kevin,
Normally discharged soldiers are looking to upgrade their discharge code which automatically upgrades the RE code also.  Since you're not one of those, you should start by submitting your request to change a reenlistment code on a DD Form 149 found at
http://www.dtic.mil/whs/directives/infomgt/forms/eforms/dd0149.pdf
and submit it to the Army Board for Correction of Military Records.
It's also a big help to contact your nearest VA office and let them walk you through the process.  They do this all the time and will be glad to help.  Also, your request carries more weight if submitted through the VA.  Visit their website at  http://www.va.gov/

Good luck,
Colonel H
