Question
I was in the Navy Reserves from 2003-2005/6. Heres what happened......
In May 2005, I had emergency surgery. I was under doctors orders not to drive and could not ride very far either. Once I was out of the hospital, the next night actuallly, I faxed my paperwork from the hospital and the doctor to my medical liason for my unit as I was told to do. I was not allowed to drive to do my drills (which was 92 miles one way)until AT LEAST  mid August 2005. As I got paperwork, I faxed it to my medical liason to turn into the unit as well as the medical records room to be put in my file. At the end of August, my grandmother had to have knee surgery so I had to miss drill in September to take care of her and my children. I had everything set and planned for my October drill weekend and I got a letter in the mail stating that my unit had begun processing me for Admin Sep for too many UA from drill. I IMMEDIATELY wrote a letter and faxed it to my unit directly explaing why I had not been there and who I had been faxing paperwork to and doctor letters and all that and requested that they stop the Admin Sep process since I was under medical orders during that period. They said they would not stop it and not to worry...if I wanted to reenlist later on down the road, then I could.
I waited and waited for papework. It never arrived. I honestly didnt think much about it after a while. After a few years, I requested my records from St Louis. They informed me that the records were in Millington, TN. I had to request three times for those records. I finally got them about a week ago. In there is a page 13 entry, that is suppossed to be my discharge information. The problem is, I am trying to go Active Army, but in that paperwork it states that I can go back into the Navy ith prior approval form CHNAVPERSCOM. My reentry code is a 4 though. The Army is not too sure what to make of this because normally an RE4 is untouchable..ineligible for reenlistment. I received a General Discharge for Unsat Perfor.
HELP

Answer
Re4 is a career killer.  It basically bans you from joining the Navy again, and recently a restriction was placed on joining the Army or Army Guard as well.

There is really nothing you can do to change that.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
