Careers: Military--Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard/age waiver

Question
Hello,

My husband has been going through Air Force recruitment process for more than a year now.  In May 08' he applied to be a pilot/navigator (age 27). He was informed at the end of Nov 08' he was not picked up.  Due to this, he decided to apply for a regular commission and enlist just incase he was not picked up again.  He swore in for his enlistment in December 08' (he was still 27) and was put in the delayed enlistment program/filled out his age waiver (we have the signed and dated paper work and his delayed leave card).  He turned 28 at the end of January 09'- This week we found out he was not picked up by this officer board.  We assumed he would be leaving in May for basic,  our recruiter called back and said the age waiver had been rejected and he could not join the Air Force.

My question is, what can we do now?  We're calling our senator tomorrow for help, but how long will that take even if it works?  Our recruiter told us  October 08' would be when my husband would leave for OTS (we were naive at this point and believed him). We moved in with my parents so I would not be alone during his training.  Seven months later we're still here in this transitional period- it's not an ideal situation.

Thank you for your help and any advice.

 Thanks for your help.

Answer
Calling the senator was a good move. Any complaints spark a senate inquriry that starts at the HQ recruiting command and filters down, IF there iwas a break in the system, they will or SHOULD find it.. Keep on them though.. and be ready for a rough ride.

I would also talk to another branch of the military, I know thats not what he wanted, but they all pay the same

If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do.
