Question
QUESTION: So, a family member has just returned to MCT in NC on monday. we were informed that he may have had a lapse of judgement and took a hit of pot sunday. he was drug tested tuesday. He took niacin pills and some flush drink and drank a ton of water. do you think he will be okay? what will happen from here if he is not. I know this was a very dumb decision, and so does he, but now i am freaking out for him.

ANSWER: Kim:

If it was only one 'hit', it sounds like he *might* be ok, but it's a toss up at this point.  I'm not familiar with how to flush your system (or, if it even works) so at this point, it's a waiting game, and a lesson learned.

QUESTION: Thank you Jason for you quick response.
Do you have any idea when he(we) would find out? Or what happens when a person fails the drug screen at MCT? He was on his ten day leave from Parris Island to NC. Its making me sick to think about it and I have no idea when we will know.
I do appriciate your answer, thank you for at least being a sound board!--kim

Answer
Kim:

Two weeks to a month or so.   If he pops positive, there are 2 possible outcomes, the first is a reduction in rank and loss of pay, the second is a discharge.   It'll be up to the command to determine which.  Since he is under six months time in service for the military, it's possible he'll be discharged.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
