Question
I cant join the marines till i get my sleeve tattoo removed. That could take up to a year . I was wondering if I just joined the army reserve would it be possible to switch from that to active marine? The army reserve would help me pay for the tattoo removal.
Jon,
Switching from the Reserves to active-duty in any branch of the Service is extremely difficult. Especially switching between branches, like from Army to USMC. I would say it's impossible but I know of one or two cases that were successful (for other reasons).
I know a year sounds like a long time, but remember there will be a waiting period after you've joined. See if the Marine recruiter will at least let you begin the paperwork process after a few sessions of tattoo removal, so he knows you're serious.
