Question
Back in 1993, I entered in the Air Force.  Mid-way through basic I hurt my back.  To me it was a good muscle pull.  Went to the doctor and he told me I would be kicked out of military because I would not be world wide qualified.  So, being 18 and dumb, I didn't want to wait to get kicked out and the doctor told me to say I was a homosexual.  I am not homosexual and was married to my wife for two years at this time. Took his advice cause I could get my old job back, and got discharged.  Received an Entry Level Separation with a RE code of 2C.  I am going on 11 years of law enforcement with a Masters degree and married for 15 years.  Want to reenlist, but need RE code changed.  Recruiters around my area don't want to help or be bothered.  Is there anything that can be done on my part?  Just feel like I was wronged, even though my decision at the time.  Any and all help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Answer
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, Im prepping for deployment.

I wish that I could find that doctor and give him some wall to wall counseling!!! What a jerk! That is so not the Air Force way of doing things.

What you would have to do is apply for a change to records thru the Air Force. Its not easy to get started, but since you have been in LE that long and have the education, shouldnt be an issue. The RE Code 2C just means that you were involuntarily separated under honorable conditions, This doesnt mean you cant come in... THe fact that you are prior service is whats stopping you. You can go into the Reserves, but not back to active duty at least on the enlisted side...

I would be talking to the Officer Accessions people and see if that Masters Degree cant get you a commission into Security Forces or OSI. I know that they are Always looking for those anyway...

If you want you can go to Air Force.com and ask an adviser, have one of the officer types contact you ....\

I have spent the past 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, 3 years was assigned as an Enlisted Accessions Recruiter. I have been deployed various times to several locations. If it is a career in the military you are looking for or thinking about I most likely have the answer. I still have contacts with in the recruiting field and if I don't know the answer then I have folks who do where I can find the answer. I am very blunt and straight forward and will make no attempts to BS you. I will give you the best information that I possible can can. If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
