Question
my grandson signed up for the delayed entry while a senior.he did all paper work, physical, and went to charlotte for the swearing in or oath , if he decided to go to college now could he ? or is he obligated to go as was planned when he did all his paperwork..just wandering also why are there no more sign on bonus

Answer
Deb, sorry for not getting back to you sooner, Im preparing for my deployment..

Technically...hes obligated.

If you look at the contracts he signed he signed a contract for a specific amount of time...but its not binding until he starts getting paid... so technically you get the answer..

My question is this... Is he deciding to go to college because he didnt get a bonus? Because really as a recruiter I hated the bonuses.. This obviously attracts applicants because its more money than most has ever seen!! The problem arises after the money is gone, they are now stuck in a job the really didnt like.

Your grandson has to make the choice, my opinion is he signed the contract, he needs to honor it, but its his decision to do what he wants to do.. He has to weigh the pros & cons and see which will get him the better deal in the long run. Just as a note, my office partner in my old office has a 6 month waiting list of folks who have college degrees waiting to get in...

My suggestion is to sit him down and find out what it is that HE really wants to do.. Not what you or the parents want what HE really wants and then make the decision based off of that..

If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do.
