Question
I am currently mobilizing to go to Iraq for the second time with the National Guard unit I have been a part of for almost seven years. I have just recently transfered from an infantry company to the Battalion 2 section.  Currently 11B is my only MOS as I could not get slotted for a 35F school before we are deployed, despite the efforts of my command to do so through ATTRS.  I have received a few peripheral schools dealing with Intelligence, mostly schools dealing with operating intel computer systems, such as DCGS-A and CPOF.  I have also applied for and received my security clearance. Due to this our brigade S2 has decided to let me remain in the 2 section as an analyst for this deployment, though I am the only non-MOSQ in the section, but insists I will need to go to the five month school when I get back, something I am not looking forward to since I am already spending a year away from my wife and child.  My question is this, Is there an army program or reg where if I log enough hours performing the job of and slotted in a certain MOS spot, an officer of enough rank or enough echelons higher than me can award me that MOS without having gone to a formal school?  It seems that some time ago I read about someone doing that, actually in a 35 series MOS if I remember, but I have had trouble trying to pull up the page where I read that. No one on the staff seems to know anything about it but I can almost swear I read that once. Thanks an advance for your help.

Answer
No MOS allows you to do OJT, you must go thru a TASS school to get awarded the MOS, there is no way around it.  Look at it this way, if you do not like the job, they can't make you go to AZ for school.  But it is great real world training.

92G may still allow OJT, but thats it.  I assume you don't wanna be a cook.

Be safe on your deployment.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
