Question
I am currently enlisted in the navy and was interested in pursuing the Operation Blue to Green. I noticed at the goarmy website that an essential step in the process is for your current branch to release you from service. I was wondering what the odds of this happening are and I was also wondering if there were any other specific stipulations on eligibility for this program Thanks!

Answer
Dear Benjamin --

In some specialties, the Navy is drawing down.  That means these specialties are relatively easy to receive a release and transfer to the Army.  In others the Navy needs to retain their skilled personnel, so it is more difficult to gain a release.

There are very few other stipulations, if you are a sailor in good standing.  You will receive some "greening" training.  You will also go through advanced individual training or non-commissioned officer specialty training, depending on your current rank, to ensure you are up to date in the field you will enter.

A fair number of Sailors and Airmen have made the transfer.  Good luck to you.  Please write back, if you have additional questions.
