Question
I was in the army reserves but went on IRR early. I thought they would keep
me on IRR until my time was up but I received a notice in the mail stating
that I was discharged with an uncharacterized status. Am I still a veteran? I
want to apply for a job that only allows veterans to apply, but I am not sure if
my discharge status qualifies me as a veteran.

Answer
your DD214 should give you the exact terminology and 'uncharacterized' isnt usually on there. You would normally also be told if you were getting a discharge for 'under other than honorable conditions' . If you weren't told this, then you should still be a veteran and your status should be apparent. You will have to give your prospective job a DD214 and they will evaluate it for any other status changes.

Expertise

I am currently an active duty Army Captain in the Military Police Field. I have been enlisted (Military Intelligence) and attended The United States Military Academy at West Point. I can answer questions related to the Army, posting, jobs, lifestyle, workings... pretty much anything you can throw at me with the exception of very specific recruting or medical questions. I have no expertise in what it takes to get in the military other than the fact that I, myself, joined at one point in time.

Experience

I have experience in both deployed and garrision environments as a Military Police Officer.

Education/Credentials
Bachelor of Science in Arabic and French from United States Military Academy at West Point.
