Question
I joine dthe guard in feb 23 2009. I am a single mother of four children. I thought I had someone who would take care of my kids but she backed out. I have tried to find someone else but havent been able to. My family doesnt help me and the fathers family doesnt either. I missed one RSP session due to not having anyone to stay with the kids master sargeant had advised me to go to formation and leave the kids in the car for 10-15 minutes while he released me. I fearing to get in trouble with the military police on base didnt show up and the master sargeant came with the military to look for me.My children and I were at home but didnt open becauses we got scared I didnt want to get arrested in front of my kids and I didnt have anywhere to leave them. Can you please guide me as to what I can do?

Answer
You cannot get arrested for missing one weekend drill.  You have to miss 3 months worth of drills first before ANYTHING can be done to you.

However, now that your family care plan is not good, you need to advise your RSP SGT and ask to be discharged due to no family care plan.  The military has no choice but to release you.  This is not a major issue since you have not been to training yet.  You may also want to touch base with your recruiter and he can advise you as well.

Good luck

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
