Question
if one gets a criminal mischief class A misdemeanor can a new recruit still enlist in the Marines especially considering that they have already begun the process (i.e. filled out papers, scheduled an ASVAB, scheduled a physical etc.)

In short, yes.
A misdemeanor is usually not very serious so the Marines can issue you a waiver for it. However, you must go back to your recruiter right away and have him start the waiver paperwork before you take the ASVAB and physical. There's no harm done if you admit to it FIRST and receive a waiver. It's waiting until AFTER, or letting them discover it on their own, that will get you in serious trouble.
Misdemeanors are routinely waived.
