Question
Hi. My girlfriend has decided to join the navy but wasnt really clear on what she can do after the basic training. She said training is 2 months. My question is : when she comes back from training does she have to live on a navy base or can she stay living at home? I also heard the navy pays for an apartment, and if thats the case can she rent an apartment anywhere she wants? Thanks.

Answer
Generally if someone goes to basic training (meaning they are now in the enlisted ranks) they are required to live on base unless they are married. this stipulation only lasts until they reach a certain rank however. With that said, if she joined the Navy Reserves, then she can still live off base.
